Light on Yoga B.K.S. Iyengar. The classic yoga 'bible' describes hundreds asanas in great detail, their uses and contraindications. Great for reference for those who have an established practice, but maybe not the best book for beginners, can be hard to follow at times. ***** |

Hatha Yoga by Godfrey Devereux. Godfrey has a unique style of teaching that is well reflected in this book. The way the postures are described and the use of internal dynamics and bandhas will help you to bring life to your practice. **** |

Yoga Mind & body Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre. This is a great book for anyone starting out in yoga, giving a general overview of many aspects of yogic living. Shows postures in a basic form and then gives modifications to work on as your practice progresses. The Sivananda way of sequencing postures is quite different to the traditions I have become familiar with, but that's not to say its right or wrong. The other thing I like about this book is that it shows you what not to do.**** |
